take three

17 Nov

the wigglers are seemingly big fans of L&D. i did my best to avoid it but to no avail. called the doctors office around 11:30 just to tell them about my contractions (ranging from 3-10 an hour), cramping, etc. the thing is none of it has changed for the past three days so i wasn’t worried but it is strange to be woken up with menstrual like cramps so i called. nurse said i should be seen. okay that works. appointment was set for later in the afternoon when they could squeeze me in. apparently not soon enough though. i received a call a few minutes after setting up the appointment telling me that the nurse practitioners wanted me to go to L&D immediately instead. i reiterated that all symptoms had been pretty consistent for almost three days. but since they were not willing to take chances off i went. again. on the way there (about a 35-40 minute trip) i had 7 contractions. they are all mild but not braxton hicks like. hard to explain if you haven’t been there i think.so they hooked me up to some monitors in what i may affectionately start calling “my room” and left me for a bit. nurse came in the explain that yes there were more contractions than there should be – varying about 4 to 6 minutes apart but not in a defined pattern. did a FFN test (negative). and checked to see if contractions were doing anything to my cervix. all seems well in that territory. 1 cm dilated. the wigglers put on quite the show. they were moving nonstop. in fact the monitor was so loud with all their movement that the nurse had to come turn it down. so really it was just the contractions that they were interested in stopping/slowing so i received a shot of ter.butaline to relax the smooth muscles. ahh a muscle relaxer. that sounds lovely. but not really since it makes you shake and twitch. but the contractions slowed. for a but at least. and i was sent on my way with an rx for oral ter.butaline every 6 hours. and to follow up at my appointment on monday. since then the contractions are less frequent. and honestly, as long as they aren’t opening up the escape hatch so to speak i am good with it. uncomfortable is fine so long as the incubation continues.
