the benefits being locked outside in 4 degree weather

8 Dec

yes benefits. strange perhaps but what can you do…

this morning i woke up late. close to 7:45. dashed -as quickly as a 36 week pregnant with twins woman can dash – out of bed. hook got dressed and in a mere minutes we were ready to go. walked out the door with the boy, the dog, and myself. but no keys. hmm. after an initial moment of panic i called a locksmith. and we waited. i looked at my phone. 4 degrees. awesome. hook had hot chocolate. and gloves and a hat. i had a hat, gloves and a scarf. the dog kept picking up her paws because they were so cold. locksmith called back. 15-25 minutes. acceptable. 15 minutes later another call. locksmith has locked his car keys in his car. i told him i was outside with a six year old. and i pulled the pregnancy card as well. he was unmoved. said maybe another 15-25 minutes. (the other locksmith i called never called back). so we kept waiting. and it was seemingly getting colder. magoo was kicking me crazily as the cold air whooshed over my gargantuan belly that can only be partially covered by my jacket. hook started breaking down. his toes were freezing. we stomped around. and pretended we were penguins. and kept waiting. i tried to reason with hook (and myself) that it was okay. we were doing fine. someone would be there soon. i was a bit concerned my water would break and i would be standing there freezing. but after an hour the locksmith arrived. and because it was so cold some of his tools weren’t working. hook started to cry again. and we went to wait in the locksmiths car. after another 10 minutes or so we were in. as a sign of “generosity” or something the locksmith took 20 dollars off. i wasn’t really in a position to argue though. so we paid. and then we huddled around the heater for another 30 minutes before i brought hook to school.

so what are the benefits of freezing outside for an hour with your kid and your dog when you are nine months pregnant? honestly we were alright. it was cold. really cold. i straightened up the porch. and i stood there for an hour. something i have not done for a while. just standing. yay gravity. magoo is low. even lower the past few days.perhaps this will bring on labor. i was able to talk to hook a bit about how you can deal with what happens in life even if it isn’t fun. the wigglers were quite active which is my favorite thing. and really it was a comedy of errors. how often can you say your locksmith locked himself out of his car on his way to unlock your door?

fun times here. i am going to make an effort to remember my keys. all. the. time.

I admit, I read it twice trying to find the benefits. You are more optimistic than me! 4 degrees. I would be such a b*tch to deal with! I hate the cold.
